    Those thin strips of Aluminum (Aluminium) dropped from airplanes was called “CHAFF, AIRPLANE” to distinguish from grain chaff, an agricultural rubbish. It was also called “Window”. The object was blurr the images formed by airplanes from enemy Radar. When thousands of metallic strips were thrown at the vicinity of Radar, the flitting strips took its time descending, also they disperse on the way down, making the images appear larger, and seemed numerous. To conserve on the metal., plastic strips were tried, a thin metallized lightweight substitute and proved more effective.
